Grover Alexander was President when Ferdinand Effinger emigrated from Germany.  When a fire destroyed the brewery he worked for he decided to start his own – The Effinger Brewery on Lynn Street.  Over the years 3 generations of Effingers ran the business and they all adapted to their changing industry. 

In 1896 Effinger was amongst the first to bottle beer and expand distribution beyond home.  During prohibition they manufactured ice cream and a then unknown product - Potato Chips.  Effinger Ice Cream - founded in 1921 - was so successful it was bought out by Borden!  Of course when beer was legalized Effinger returned to manufacturing that “special brew” the folks of Baraboo and surrounding areas enjoyed best.  This logo comes from a 1940s beer bottle label.
