The beer industry in Davenport, Iowa got its start after large numbers of German immigrants arrived in the 1850s. Independent Malting Company was formed in 1892 by the Zoeller Brothers. It was located at 1901 West 3rd Street. In 1941 it was the largest brewery in Iowa! They employed 250-300 people and their annual output was 150,000 barrels. Their beers were distributed in 9 states and 2,000 cities. The company changed its name to the Blackhawk Brewery in 1944. It ended production in 1953 with the rise of national brands.
This design comes from a 1940’s Blackhawk Beer conetop can.
