It may not be from a historic American brewery, but we thought this vintage motorcycle logo was so nice we had to add it to our collection!
Chicago's Excelsior Motor Manufacturing and Supply Company began producing Excelsior motorcycles in 1907. They quickly leapt to the forefront of more than 200 American motorcycle manufacturers of that era. Even Indian and Harley-Davidson couldn't keep up with Excelsior's production and popularity. In 1925 Excelsior released its Super X model - America 's first motorcycle with a 45 cubic inches (737 cc) V-twin engine.
The 1929 stock market crash and the resulting Great Depression caused motorcycle sales to plummet. In 1931, despite a full order book, the owner called his department heads together for a meeting and bluntly told them “Gentlemen, today we stop”. All motorcycle operations at Excelsior ended by September 1931.
