This design was inspired by an old beer bottle label. Mule Beer was produced from 1935 - 1940. Brewery owner and former prize-fighter Bennie McGovern trained a mule named Dan to sniff out a beer from his brewery from a lineup of bottles. "Dan the Drinking Mule" would grab the bottle with his teeth and guzzle it down!
Old Appleton's brewery opened in 1874 and closed in 1947.
