Herman Kostenbader and Conrad Schaffer began brewing lager beer at The Eagle Brewery in 1867. Kostenbader was very serious about the quality of his beer. During the 1890s he was so unhappy about the purity of available water that he decided the brewery needed its own artesian well. A few years and 205 feet later The Eagle Brewery had unlimited access to soft, clear, and perfectly pure water.
The Eagle Brewery was a longstanding success in the Lehigh Valley. They were known for excellent quality. In the early 1900s it was said that they who know how to use and properly appreciate good beer say “Kostenbader”.
This design was inspired by a 1930's beer serving tray.
